What they are

As old as the Universe that made them.

Kinlings are as old as the Universe that created them. Each one born in a different place, made of a different material - bound forever to where it began. A Kinling born inside a volcano is volcanic rock and living magma. A Kinling born on the ocean floor is coral and tide.

They are as old as the planets. As old as the first rain that fell. As old as the oceans that chose what color to be.

That is why they always look half-asleep - they have seen all there is to see in their own worlds. And so they follow the glow of their antennae, as it leads them to other Kinlings and the power of new memories.

Memories are what powers them. Each Kinling carries a unique set inside its amulet. And so they seek each other out, across impossible distances, to combine what they have seen.

Where they come from

Every material in the cosmos, across every planet, has formed a Kinling.

Every Kinling is formed in a different place in the Universe. One inside a dying nebula. One in the roots of a forest as old as the trees are wise. One inside a magma chamber. One inside a hailstone. One on a beach at midnight when the waves began to glow.

Kinlings remember where they came from. Their quest is to find one another, and grow their collective memories and powers - and in sum - being the force that binds the Universe together as one.

Why they glow

So they can find each other.

Every Kinling has a soft glowing antenna at the top of its head. Different colors, different intensities, but every single one lights up. It is how they find each other across impossible distances, across oceans and galaxies and the spaces between stars.

When a Kinling gets closer to another, its antenna burns brighter - signaling that another is near. The closer they get, the brighter it burns.

Alone, a Kinling is ancient and quiet and powerful in its own way. But the more Kinlings come together, the stronger they become.

The Memory Amulet

Bound to its Kinling. Holding everything it has ever known.

Each charm is shaped as a symbol of where the Kinling was born, and is bound exclusively to that Kinling.

The amulet holds a Kinling's memories. The first memory is always that of its origin - the instant it opened its eyes inside a volcano, a glacier, a nebula, a forest floor. That origin memory is the foundation of everything a Kinling is.

Every memory a Kinling gathers after that is stored inside the amulet, and each one makes the amulet more powerful, and its Kinling with it.

When Kinlings find each other, their amulets combine the force of their collective memories. The collective becomes far greater than any of them alone. A hundred Kinlings together carry a hundred lifetimes of memory.
